Relaxing Standards of Etiquette

Not only could you free up valuable minutes by using preprinted cards, but you could also save the trouble of sending someone to deliver the preprinted card. You could now just hand your card to the mailman to deliver!






When previously handwritten notes of thanks were suddenly cheapened, in an effort to free up one’s time and ease social obligations.

The cards styled “thank” cards, are neatly printed with blanks to be written in ink: “Mrs. ______________ returns thanks for kind inquiries.” Etiquette permits them to be sent by mail. — Sacramento Daily Union, 1882
